Connecting Your Child’s Device Adroid

Once your Parent Profile is set up, the next step is connecting your child’s device. This allows you to manage safety settings, set up screen time routines, and view activity reports from your Parent App.

How to Connect Your Child’s Device on Android Devices

Step 1: Download the Young Minds Kids App

  • On your child’s Android device, open the Google Play Store.
  • Search for “Young Minds Kids App” and install it.

Step 2: Log In with Your Parent Account

  • Open the Young Minds Kids App on your child’s device.
  • Log in using your Parent Account credentials (the same email and password you used to sign up).

Step 3: Confirm Device Setup

  • You’ll be asked if this device should be protected.
  • Tap “Confirm” to continue.

Step 4: Link to a Child Profile

  • Choose which Child Profile this device belongs to.
  • You can select an existing Child profile or create a new one.
  • Give the device a recognisable name (e.g. “Emma’s Tablet”).

Step 5: Grant Key Permissions

To enable full protection, the Young Minds Kids App will now guide you through several permissions. Each one plays a specific role in ensuring safety, tracking, and control.

  • Accessibility Reporting - Allows monitoring of app usage and web activity to support healthy digital habits.
  • Device Admin - Prevents the Young Minds Kids App from being uninstalled without your permission.
  • App Display - Enables on-screen messages when limits are reached or apps are blocked (e.g. “Time’s Up!” alerts).
  • Usage Data Access - Tracks overall device usage and generates daily reports in your Parent Dashboard.
  • Notification Access - Ensures the app continues running in the background, even when your child switches apps.
  • Battery Optimisation Exemption - Prevents monitoring from being paused during battery-saving mode.
  • VPN Service - Powers smart web filtering, improved browsing protection, and more accurate online activity reports.

Allow each permission as prompted - they work together to keep your child’s digital experience safe, smooth, and secure.

Step 6: Finish Setup

  • Once permissions are enabled, you’ll see the Kids App dashboard on the child’s device.
  • The setup is now complete on this device.

Final Step: Return to the Young Minds Parent App

  • Open your Parent App on your own device.
  • From here, you can activate safety filters, set up screen time routines, and manage everything remotely.

Note: Allow up to 15 minutes for all information and statuses to sync from Young Minds Kids App to the Young Minds Parent App.
