Step 1: Download the Young Minds App
On your child’s Android device, open the Google Play Store and search for Young Minds App, or install it directly from:
Download Young Minds App from Google Play.
Step 2: Enter Your Setup Code
Open the Young Minds App on your child's device. Enter the Setup Code generated for your child in the Young Minds Parent App.
Step 3: Confirm Device Setup
You will be asked if this device should be protected - Tap Confirm to continue.
Step 4: Name the Device
Assign a recognisable device name (for example, Emma’s Tablet).
Step 5: Grant Key Permissions
To enable full protection, the Young Minds App will guide you through several permissions. Each permission helps ensure proper monitoring, safety, and screen time control.
- Accessibility Reporting – Allows monitoring of app usage and web activity.
- Device Admin – Prevents the app from being uninstalled without parental approval.
- App Display – Enables on-screen messages when time limits are reached or apps are blocked.
- Usage Data Access – Tracks device activity and generates reports in the Parent Dashboard.
- Notification Access – Ensures the app continues running in the background.
- Battery Optimisation Exemption – Prevents monitoring from being paused during battery-saving mode.
- VPN Service – Enables smart web filtering, improved browsing protection, and more accurate activity reports.
Allow each permission when prompted to ensure the app functions correctly.
Step 6: Finish Setup
Once all permissions are enabled, the Kids App dashboard will appear on the child’s device.
Setup on this device is now complete.
Final Step: Manage the Device from the Parent App
Open the Young Minds Parent App on your device.
From there, you can:
- Activate safety filters
- Set screen time schedules
- Manage apps and usage remotely
Note: It may take up to 15 minutes for device information and status updates to fully sync between the Young Minds App and the Young Minds Parent App.
